Sidney Nolan's Perished is one of a series of his paintings purchased by The University of Western Australia in 1953. This bold and perceptive purchase laid the groundwork for an adventurous and contemporary art collection at the University. The painting is one of the first in Nolan's great series of works on the tragic and ill-conceived Burke and Wills expedition of 1861.
