Register of Students Attending the University of Western Australia, March 1913
One hundred and eighty-four students enrolled in the newly opened university in 1913. Edward Sydney Simpson (1875–1939), credited with units from a degree from the University of Sydney, enrolled in 1913 for UWA's Bachelor of Science degree. He completed 'attendance and examinations in Biology I' prior to being granted a BSc with Honours in 1914. In 1917 he applied for admission to the degree of Doctor of Science and was awarded the degree in 1919 for his thesis The Minerals of Western Australia. He was the first student to obtain a degree from UWA and the first to earn a Doctorate of Science.
