999-year Crown Lease, 1919
The lease to the University of Western Australia was granted for a 999-year term commencing on 1 July 1919. It is a special lease, granted for the exclusive purpose of providing a site for the main buildings of the University, realised by the generous bequest of Sir John Winthrop Hackett. Originally, the leasehold area was '102 acres 8 perches' and was sealed by 'Public Seal of Our said State' by Sir Francis Alexander Newdegate, Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Administrator, on 3 March 1920.
